The Speaker of the Jozini Local Municipality Council, Cllr Delani Mabika, officially introduced His Worship the Mayor, Cllr Nkosinathi Myeni, to the Amakhosi of eJozini. The municipality is home to seven Amakhosi: KwaSiqakatha, Ntsinde, Mngomezulu, Mathenjwa, Jobe, Nyawo, and KwaNgwenya Traditional Councils.

The meeting was attended by three Amakhosi, including the Chairperson of all Amakhosi in the uMkhanyakude District, Inkosi Gumede of the KwaSiqakatha Traditional Council. The remaining Amakhosi were attending another engagement in Durban.

In his address, Mayor Myeni expressed his appreciation to the Amakhosi for their presence and reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with traditional leadership going forward. He acknowledged past challenges that affected service delivery and emphasised the importance of rebuilding trust and collaboration. The Mayor pledged to prioritise the improvement of road infrastructure in areas under traditional leadership and assured Amakhosi that his office remains open for engagement at any time.

“I want to ensure that we bring stability to the municipality and start delivering better services to our people,” said Mayor Myeni.

Inkosi S.S. Myeni of the Ntsinde Traditional Council welcomed the Mayor and extended an invitation for him to visit the tribal court for a formal introduction to the broader traditional leadership.

Inkosi Mpumelelo Mngomezulu of the Mngomezulu Traditional Council raised concerns regarding poor communication between the municipality and traditional leaders, particularly in relation to service delivery initiatives that are implemented without proper consultation.

Meanwhile, Inkosi Gumede of KwaSiqakatha offered his blessings to the new Mayor and encouraged him to remain connected to the people on the ground.
