Jozini Local Municipality has officially welcomed a new Mayor following the resignation of Cllr Mfananaye Mathe, who stepped down from his position as Mayor and as a Member of the Executive Committee.
Cllr Nkosinathi Scelo Myeni was elected as the new Mayor on 16 May 2025, during a Special Council Sitting convened for this purpose. He brings with him a wealth of experience in local government, having served as a councillor since 2011. Cllr Myeni previously held the position of Speaker of Council in an earlier administration, and since 2021, he has served as the Portfolio Chairperson for Planning, Economic Development and Human Settlement Services.
Cllr Myeni, who represents Ward 1 under the banner of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), is expected to serve in this role until the next local government elections in 2026.
As he assumes office, His Worship the Mayor Myeni has expressed his commitment to meeting the people of Jozini, improving service delivery, and fostering a responsive and trustworthy government. He has affirmed his dedication to working closely with communities, stakeholders, and all spheres of government to advance development and uplift the lives of residents across the municipality.
The municipality looks forward to his leadership in strengthening governance, accelerating infrastructure development, and enhancing the quality of life for all.
